It is a carrier oil that is derived by pressing the seed of the almond fruit of the Prunus dulcis (Almond tree). The tree is native to Iran and surrounding countries, however almond oil is mainly produced in California. It’s commonly used in skincare and haircare because of its moisturizing, nourishing, and healing properties.
Types of almond oil
Sweet almond oil, which is most commonly used for skin and hair due to its safety and nourishing effects. It can be refined or unrefined.
Refined almond oil: This type of oil is made using high-heat and chemical processing to extract it from the almond seed. It is often less nutritious and can stand higher temperatures.
Un-refined oil: It is made by pressing the almonds without the use high heat or chemical agents (cold press). This allows the oil to retain much of its nutrient.
Bitter almond oil, which contains compounds that can be toxic, is typically used in aromatherapy or for scent.

Benefits of almond oil to the skin
Skin soothing: It has a lightweight, non-greasy texture that penetrates easily, making it ideal for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
Moisturize and hydrate the skin: The fatty acids help the skin retain moisture. Regular use can help to reduce flakiness and chapped skin, especially during colder months.
Smooths Skin Texture: The oil’s moisturizing properties also help to improve skin elasticity, giving it a smoother appearance over time.
Helps with eczema, acne and psoriasis: Almond oil is non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores) and can help balance skin’s natural oils, making it beneficial for acne-prone skin when used in moderation. It can also soothe skin irritation and inflammation, making it useful for conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
Protects Against Sun Damage: While not a substitute for sunscreen, almond oil contains mild sun-blocking properties, helping to prevent sun damage when used along with other sun protection methods. Its soothing, hydrating properties also make it effective for healing sunburned skin.
Reduce signs of aging and fade scars: Almond oil is packed with Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals, reducing the signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles. It may help lighten acne scars, stretch marks, and other skin discolorations with consistent use.
Brightening Effect: With regular application, almond oil can improve skin tone and reduce hyperpigmentation, including dark circles under the eyes.
Benefits of almond oil to the hair
Promotes Hair Growth: Nutrients such as vitamin E and magnesium in almond oil strengthen hair follicles and reduce hair fall, promoting thicker hair growth over time. Also, massaging almond oil into the scalp stimulates blood flow, which may further promote hair growth and reduce dandruff.
Soothes Scalp Irritations: Almond oil can reduce scalp irritation, flakiness, and itchiness, especially helpful for those with a sensitive or dry scalp.
Protect hair from dandruff: Its moisturizing and mild exfoliating properties help reduce dandruff when used as a scalp treatment.
Nourishes and Conditions: Fatty acids help to lock in moisture, making hair soft and shiny, especially beneficial for dry or damaged hair. When applied to the ends, almond oil can smooth down frizzy hair and seal split ends, giving the hair a healthier look.
Protect hair from sun damage.
